0707, Sat, 050711. We had a little gust of wind now and then last night with just a slight roll to the water, but all in all it was a nice night. We did our usual dinghy tour of the bay yesterday. The water along the edge was crystal clear to about twenty feet and well protected from any breeze that may have wondered over the mountain. This made for a great view of the bottom as we rode along, like having a glass bottom boat it was so clear. They don't have the colorful reefs of the Caribbean but the bottom was covered in rocks and plant life in all shades of browns. We spotted a lot of fish, I believe they were of the Angel Fish family, you know the real slender guys with a profile almost round. These were about the size of a grown man's hand, mostly midnight black, mix in a stripe of bright orange and a bit of yellow and it is one pretty fish. They seemed to like to hang out in groups of five to ten. We spooked a lot of small Sargeant Majors, the little guys about the size of a silver dollar, oblong in profile with alternating stripes of black and yellow running vertically. They were in bigger schools, streaming past the boat. There was another fish which was kind of non-descript, almost invisible to the sandy background. If I was to take a guess at these guys I would have to say they were small bone fish, oh and one last kind of fish, the long tubular guys about three feet long, also skiddish around the dinghy, they looked to be Needle Fish with their pointy nose and body like a long thick hose.
As we went slowly along the shore we came across a mom and pop team of sea gulls. She would stay put pretty much on the nest and squawk orders to pop as he stood guard with that look of, "I hope they don't come too close". Poor momma had to stay close to the nest with a flock of Frigate Birds circling above. Those thieves would just love a meal of fresh eggs.
It warmed up nicely with hardly a whisper of wind so we ended up going in the water a couple of times. The water temperature is still a bit chilly, but it is nice to jump in now and then, very refreshing.
Sue just mentioned that we have been in Mexico for a full year, wow.
Movie time last night, another oldie. Duel in the Sun was playing with Gregory Peck. He played a young guy, a no good bum cowboy. Jennifer Jones played his floozy girl who tramped around after him. They ended the movie with a very dramatic love scene, but I won't give away any of those details here…..more later..
