It was karate and coffee day.  Jay and I met at our usual coffee shop, the Fig Tree, in downtown Roseville.  We went over a lot of material, discovered some new things, having a productive study.  It was a nice enough day to get the bike out of the mothballs and enjoy a ride to both the coffee shop and Aikido.  Gotta love these days…more later..

We spent some more time with Karissa.  We headed to Petroglyph so she could paint up a project.  She is so creative.  Nice work.  Then we enjoyed a lunch at Panda Express.  Yum

We got to visit with Michelle and even saw Eric for a bit as we dropped KK off, then got in a visit to catch up with Ryan and Beth.  Busy day.  Loads of fun…..more later..

We took time to get a second opinion on the flat tire.  We went by Les Schwab and asked them about our problem.  They confirmed I needed a new tire and at the same price as American Tires, but apparently my wipers must be fine since they didn't mention them.  We go in today and get the new tire.

We then went out to lunch with Karissa, first picking her up and seeing the great progress Michelle and Eric are making on the new floor.  They are doing a real nice job.  Off to lunch with KK.  We went to Olive Garden and enjoyed a good meal then over to Petroglyph's but everyone else had the same idea.  One and a half hour wait.  We decided to call it a day and do a repeat later in the week, maybe with an ice cream after….more later..

I was on my way home from Aikido Saturday and I discovered I had a flat tire as I pulled into the driveway.  Bummer.  I got out the spare, switched things up and headed off to my tire store, American Tire.  They have done a great job over the years for me, but things seem to have changed.  I noticed they were busy upselling everyone.  They would go out with some fancy tool that they measured the tread with then come in to a big chart that made it look official and point out the dangers of a worn tire.  Fair enough, but who made the chart?  Then they presented another chart that said you must change the wipers every six months, ha.   My tire was a little scuffed on the side, looks like I hit a curb, so the guy said I had to replace the tire at almost $300 bucks.  I have an appointment to do just that tomorrow but I plan on getting a second opinion today….more later..

Happy Valentine's Day

I was able to finish up the bamboo boxes for the sprinkler controllers.  It was kind of tedious but pretty good results.

We went by the Blooms the other day to check out their project.  Hardwood floors in the upstairs.  It is looking real good.  The hard work is paying off….more later..

A different project yesterday.  Sue wanted the bamboo covers that go over the sprinkler controls rebuilt.  The old ones are falling apart.  I tried to work with the old ones about a week ago but that didn't go well.  Starting from scratch, I made a new frame and then took apart the old boxes and reused the bamboo.  It is slow going since I have to wait for the glue to dry but it is turning out just fine….more later..

I wasn't happy with the outcome of a part of the tree project.  The clear coat raised the grain a bit in spots which is fine in the tree, but I wanted a different texture in the ground.  I spent some time hand sanding that part of the project enough to eliminate the roughness yet not enough to disturb the stain.  It turned out awesome.  One more  finish coat on that section and now it should be ready to flip and give the back a coat.  …more later..
