We are starting to get into shade mode with the warmer weather ahead. We pulled out some material to shade the back of the boat and then remembered we still had a shade for that area. A zipper had failed so it was put away some years ago until now. We brought it out so I could measure in order to install some grommets. We headed over to the beach area so I could do some pounding, installing grommets, in the shade of the palapas. We discovered that the local guides have been busy. They have put two new table tops on the tables, all nicely varnished, redone some of the seats that needed a new board, and stripped the walls of the toilet up on the hill and put in palm matting instead. The highlight of the new works is a BBQ they put into the rocks right next to the palapa. They built in a shelf area with concrete and installed a nice grill with a hinge so it can be tilted up to tend the fire. It is now really first rate.
Last night was glassy calm, so in the middle of the night I woke for my bathroom run and could hear the fish stirring outside. I thought about it for some time, finally convincing myself that this might be a great opportunity to go fishing. I could see the fish swimming through the water, rather, I could see their glowing trails as they excited the phosphorescence. It is quite spectacular to see, all these streaks running through the water. The skies above were filled with stars shinning into the water, absolutely a beautiful night. I got out the fishing gear and threw in a line. I cast out, only to make a spectacular light show in the water complete with a bright streak leading down the line right to the lure. A fish would have to be pretty stupid to attack anything so obvious. Since I was already awake I kept at it for a bit, not getting even one little nibble. I even tried shining my flashlight in the water to attract them. Oh, that worked just fine. They came to the light and swam around, but that was it. Oh well, back to bed. At least my curiosity was satisfied and I can simply roll over and go back to sleep the next time I hear bumps in the night.
