0610, Sat, 070514. Edinburgh, Scotland.

We got in a second day here in Edinburgh (the burgh part is pronounced like brook without the K). We got a tour around the town by a local guy with a great Scottish accent. We saw all the highlights ending up at the high point of the town, the castle. It is built on the top of a big rock, a perfect spot to defend, with a gate that would narrow any foe's army down to four abreast trying to storm the gates making it nearly impossible to knock down the gates as archers from above could pummel them with arrows. We got to see the royal jewels, the crown of Scotland which was hidden when Cromwell came and nearly lost for a hundred years. It was dug up and restored to it's current splendor.
The afternoon was filled with walking around the town checking out all the touristy shops of the old town finishing up with a High Tea in a fantastically old building. They were nice enough to offer coffee to us more serious drinkers as well as a variety of sandwiches, a scone, and some tasty little desserts.
The Tour De France is close by but we won't get a glimpse of it. Once again the weather has held with only a slight shower in the late afternoon, still looking good for today.....more later..
