0715, Tue, 080718. Rocklin, CA.

I had a big weekend. Myself, along with several of my karateka, drove down to Los Angeles for the finale of Nisei Week. This is a celebration of Nisei, those who are second generation Japanese. Shotokan Karate Of America puts on a demonstration the last day of the event. We enjoyed watching various groups demonstrating kata as well as a kumite (sparring) competition.
The following day we headed up to Carpinteria, Shotokan Ohshima Dojo, our main headquarters, for Ohshima Sensei's 88 birthday. In japan, eight is a lucky number so Sensei decided to step down from being the main leader of our association on the lucky day. We had people representing our association from as far away as Switzerland, Israel, France, Belgium, and Japan. We had a great dinner with Sushi, Tempura, and Teriyaki Chicken. We finished up with cake and Sake. Another great celebration…….more later..
