0602, Thu, 042210. More waxing! Wax on, wax off, wax on…….
We did some waxing and then went over to the marina for a swim. Two new boats came in this morning so we were able to meet the new people. Sue did some internet while I grabbed an old copy of Latitudes and Attitudes and just hung out relaxing a bit. A fellow brought in a little puppy with him so we were able to get our puppy fix for the day. What a cute little thing, all black and all fur. Looks like he will be hot around here.
After hanging out in the marina for a bit and chatting with whoever came by, we headed back out to Neos and did a couple more sections of waxing. Plenty more to do but great to get in as much as the old body will manage.
Another boat showed up about midday and were told they had missed the high tide entry time. Apparently they argued that the guide book said anytime on a rising tide, so Bill agreed to bring them in at the evening rising tide. It is a real shallow draft catamaran, so I guess that helped with the decision to bring them in at the odd time. Bill has to arrange for the local guy to get the jet ski ready and then get out to meet the boat. Not something you can time to the minute. Apparently the new boat was upset they had to wait for five or ten minutes. It wasn't going to be good from the get go. This boat is so low to the water that it looks more like a big wide monohull than a catamaran, and underpowered to boot. Then they left all the port windows and hatches open. The story we heard was that Bill told them to back off and wait a bit and some how they got sideways and scooped up by the wave. It sounds like they got hit with a second wave from the side, pooped, and took on a bunch of water messing up some of their computers and stuff. We could see the dink all cockeyed as they came into the slip. Word is, they are not happy campers. Can't please them all.
One of the local gringos, Jan, lives on the island across the river and down a ways from the marina. She has three acres and has cleared it, built a house and guest quarters, and lives there full time. She is a frail looking little thing but buzzes around continually. One of her volunteer jobs is teaching English to the local kids. She puts on a BBQ at her place for the cruisers and raises enough money to take the kids to the local water park. She BBQed the chicken to a T and filled us up with rice and veggies with a mango sauce, the texture of apple sauce, for dessert. Great meal and a great way to spend the evening.
Chatting with Collette, another gringo living on the island, it sounds like they are doing much the same thing as we did in Munjack Cay with Phil and Lynda's house, Solar panels, rain for water etc. They haven't discovered Doughboy pools for water storage and have used septic tanks and leach lines for sewage, but most of the other amenities are the same. I am surprised the leach lines work since there is such a high water table. They have wells that look to have a water line about five feet below the surface. The water is a little brackish but it works good for watering and washing etc.
We headed back to Neos after the big shin-dig and watched our nightly feature of "24" then headed off to sleep……more later..
