0713, Sat, 060411. We have really enjoyed our little cove. Yesterday morning we woke to find a couple of fishermen working the point. While they were busy in their panga along came another fisherman, this guy in his kayak, wide brimmed straw hat and white rubber boots. It was low tide so there were plenty of rocks lying even with the surface of the water where this guy was able to pull his kayak out of the water. He had a couple of buckets and several lines (no poles, no reels). He would bait the hooks, then swirl them overhead and fling them out into the channel. He stood patiently until he felt the bite then gave the line a big jerk. Very basic procedure but it must be working for him, the pelicans too. They all stood by in a group of a dozen or more, about three feet away waiting their turn at a possible easy breakfast. It must be a good spot, the panga is back this morning working that same shore line.
Later in the morning we were visited by a small fishing boat and a good size day cruiser. It looked like someone in the group wanted to dive the rocks here. I'm sure they expected to anchor where we were since the bottom drops off real quickly in this little cove. Later, when it was time for them to weigh anchor I found out why they seemed concerned when they dropped the anchor. They had to haul the anchor by hand. Two guys tugged for awhile then took a breather and then tugged some more. Ugh, lets keep that windlass in good shape guys.
We had the cove to ourselves for the rest of the day with great weather, warm sun and a cool breeze. We went snorkeling to another spot and found lots more fish there. The little yellow and black striped Sergeant Majors were plentiful. I saw another small Hogfish while Sue spotted a Parrotfish. The water has cold spots that come by once in awhile that really give you a chill, whew, so we headed back to home.
Maybe I have found my game. We got out the dominoes and played a round of Chicken Foot and a round of Mexican Train. What fun, I won, hoorah.
Movie time was spent with George Carlin and lots of laughter. Some of the material was fun to hear again with lots of new stuff we hadn't ever heard. Really funny stuff.
Sue joined me on the back deck for slumber time. Not so much phosphorescence, but lots of stars. This time we could hear the whales calling each other. The sound comes right through the boat I guess. Strange since we haven't seen any whales for awhile but I think that sound travels a long way.
A little surprised this morning when we looked out to the sea and found a bank of fog. It is all gone already but looked quite thick when I first saw it. We have sun over us and the breeze has picked up a little, another fine day……more later..
