0646, Tue, 060711. We did our usual morning routine on our last morning in Bahia Candeleros before weighing anchor and heading to the next spot. The morning was perfectly still so it was motor time but we only had five miles to go. We glided along at about three and a half knots over perfectly flat waters enjoying the cool air and warm sun. I dragged the lures, as usual, but only caught seaweed. With the smooth waters, I was a little disappointed we didn't come across any dolphins or other sea critters. Of course the pelicans were making their splats as they dove for their daily meal as we headed to our destination, Honeymoon Cove on Isla Danzante. Just across the four mile separation to the mainland is Puerto Escondido. As we came into Honeymoon Cove we were greeted by a small pod of dolphins working the point, always a good omen. We found a boat in each of the three lobes with not much room left over for another boat to anchor comfortably. The sea bottom comes up rapidly close to shore making it too deep to drop the hook two boats out from shore. We made a pass by one boat to ask where their anchor was and how much chain they had out thinking we might be able to squeeze in next to them, but it looked like a real squeeze so we decided to pass. Just south was a one boat cove, unnamed, which we had passed up since it faced Northwest, the direction of the predicted winds. We decided to go there anyhow due to the wind predictions only being 8 to 10 knots. We were glad we did. We had the cove all to ourselves. The water is as clear as any swimming pool I have ever seen and about the same color. There are fish all over with schools of sergeant majors, jacks (with one or two small barracuda hiding in the bunch), hog fish, puffer fish, needle fish, angels, the list goes on and on. I saw trumpet fish that were no longer than half your little finger and as skinny as a tooth pick. This morning I spotted a trumpet fish swimming under the boat that was about three feet long. We snorkeled the rocks along the edge, went swimming off the back of the boat, and had a great day of it. Sue managed to whup me at cards again but I had her going for a bit.
We enjoyed our movie last night, "Hawaii" with Julie Andrews. I can't help but get disgusted with missionaries and the harm they do in the name of trying to enlighten the people. (Sue: of course, the sailors weren't much better!!!) The movie does an excellent job of showing that side of human nature.
After the movie let out we went for a stroll out on deck and really enjoyed the great evening. I mentioned to Sue that we should sleep out on the trampoline and it didn't take any time at all for her to agree. What a night. We had just a whisper of wind at times, lots of stars with the milky way in full bloom with plenty of tranquility. It was simply amazing to open your eyes as you rolled over and took a quick look at all those stars then slipped right back into dream land (or is that out of dream land)…….more later..
