0726, Sat, 012112. La Paz. What a perfect day for weather. The wild life seemed to think it was spring. The sea gulls were squawking and the sea lions were groaning. We felt like we were in the middle of a wild life movie.
We had spent the morning puttering around the boat and just after lunch decided it was time to head to La Paz. All the timing, with the tides and all seemed to work out. We raised the sails, I think the first time the main had been up since we got back from our trip north into the upper area of the Sea. All went well and we were sailing in no time to a slight breeze, under ten knots and moving along at just under four knots. The water was flat and we were happy as could be. As we came out of Caleta Lobos, Sue let out a whoop and I turned to see one giant splash, the whales are definitely here. I thought I had seen a spout the other morning as I looked out toward Roca Lobos. This was a huge splash and really awesome since it was only a quarter mile from us. We watched, but that was it. Later, as I walked out on the front deck I heard something splash along the starboard side and called to Sue. We watched as a playful sea lion swam through the water.
I was tempted to sail right down the channel and into the anchorage but decided against it. We dropped the sail and motored in. This turned out to be a good decision with the wind getting real different, changing directions and completely dying out at one point. So much easier to simply motor in. We found a spot on the far side of the docks and so far we haven't gotten close to anyone during the La Paz Waltz.
The card game once again has gotten passed along but was close, Sue took the win. Nothing new with the Californication bunch, just a bunch of losers. Let's see if they can dig themselves out of their hole.
We did try Skype once again. Although a little better than the other night, still far from working correctly. As lousy as the connection is, it is still fun to see the kids. Karissa is a bit puzzled with the whole thing I think
..more later..
