0706, Wed, 050212.     Isla Coronados.     We had a gathering of all the cruisers at the beach yesterday evening.  With a dozen boats it was quite a crowd.  Everyone brought a little snack to share and plenty of conversation.  Most were from California, some from Arizona, and most were part timers, six months on the boat and six months back home.  One couple had bought their boat on the east coast and once done sailing that area they brought her through the St. Lawrence River then had her shipped by land across the states to the Sea of Cortez.  That's a different way to go.  They are now going to cruise down the coast and back through the canal.

One lady was quite funny as she told her story of the great days chartering a boat in the Virgin Islands then getting stuck on a monohull where everything goes topsy turvy all the time.  A couple from Stockton told their story of getting hit by a motor boat.  There were three of them aboard and apparently they had just finished dinner and were down stairs talking about the watch schedule for the night.  I guess they didn't have a watch schedule for the day!!!  OOPS!  They made it to shore, the other boat had no insurance, but no one was hurt.

One fellow told us about squid season.  Apparently the squid come in by the thousands.  They have one thing on their mind so they aren't aggressive to people.  He said you could wade out and simply lift them up out of the water.  Once they are done mating they die ( I'm sure it is the males that die) so the place is covered with dead squids, yuk.  We missed that last year.  Hopefully we will miss that this year as well.

It was a fun eve.

Oh cards.  What can I say, I was close.  And Sopranos.  Same oh, same oh…..more later..
