0711, Sun, 060312. Bahia Agua Verde. We got an early start right after breakfast and headed via the dinghy over to the north anchorage. We had a long hike ahead going to the cave paintings. Sue and I decided to take a short cut along the goat trail that leads up over a good sized hill and down the other side to the cemetery. Of course we toured the cemetery once more. The earliest date I could find was 1937, so it has been used for a few years but there can't bee more than fifty headstones. We wandered on, through the flat wet lands where the tides bring water into the area leaving little ponds along our route. With about a mile behind us we made it to the beach, about a two mile stretch to the mountains. We stopped along the way to check out the various shells, sea gulls, and driftwood all the while able to see our final destination up on the mountainside about 200 feet above the end of the beach. Once at the end we make a turn inland along a dirt/sandy road where we could see all the tracks left from the previous night's creepy crawlers. The prints indicated everything from snakes to bunny rabbits as we plodded along through the deep sand. At a small ridge we made a right turn and headed up the goat trail leading to the caves. This is a slippery little trail with loose gravel and a sheer drop off, but it is a good eight inches wide. Watch your step!
The Caves. Last time there, they were empty but this time a group of bats had taken up residence. They were all over the ceiling and when we walked through they were disturbed, flying to the other end of the cave. Sue and I figured we would sit this one out and let Katie explore all she wanted. It was a grand view looking out over the Sea and along the long beach below.
It was time to head back so Sue and I headed down the trail as Katie did a little cross country exploring of some of the smaller caves off to the side. She actually found another trail that lead down the hillside that turned out to be easier than our usual trail. Sue and I found a nice shady spot on the beach and let Katie do some more hiking while exploring yet more caves. We got a good rest while Katie got a good workout. Then it was time to head back across the beach, through the flat lands, past the cemetery, over the hill, and our dinghy ride across the bay. We were all pooped.
After lunch I slipped off for a much needed siesta. Afterwards we played a game given to us by Ryan and Beth some time ago called Apples to Apples. You get seven cards, each with a famous person, place, or thing. One person draws an adjective card and the others submit a card that is either like or opposite or just plain funny to go along. If your card is picked as the winner you keep it adding up to ten cards for the win. It was great entertainment without much brain power needed, just right after our long hike.
In the evening, Katie brought out her computer and showed us some downloads she had gotten from the internet. This internet spot is called Ted.com. Check it out. We watched a couple, one of the guys spoke about classical music, the other was a super good card trickster. Very entertaining. It looks like this internet spot covers a wide range of material.
Oh, and we can't forget. Katie has now enjoyed the cruising must see movie, Captain Ron. I must have seen this one a dozen times or more and still it is quite funny……more later..
