It was a busy morning. Some maintenance had caught up with me on the motors, so it was time to tackle it. Time to check fluid levels as well as change zincs. Zincs are put in the motor to pick up the stray electrical current so it doesn't eat away at the motor parts. Instead it goes after the zinc which is much easier to replace than those motor parts. These little guys are called pencil zincs because they are about the same diameter as a pencil but only about an inch long. The salt water makes them soft so there is no checking them, only replacing them. As I went to take out the bolt that holds them in place I could feel the zinc tearing loose from the bolt. Not a hard job to remedy but it is down in the motor hold and happens to be located on the bottom of the thermostat housing, not right on top where it would be super easy. I got out the picks and with a mirror in one hand worked away at the crusty zinc casing. The first one was really being stubborn but after some elbow grease the new one fit in. The second (the other motor) came out and the new one in slicker than a whistle. Now that's how it is supposed to go. Fluids all looked good and job complete.
Still working on the genealogy. I contacted a guy who had lots of info about the Lloyd family although some of it was radically different than what I have. He is a distant relative, lived in my home town, Berkeley, for 34 years and now lives in retirement in
We played cards, although I don't have a clue what I am doing wrong. Oh well, I must have angered the card gods. The movie wasn't much, Frankenweenie. I don't know how Tim Burton ever got into Disney. Just isn't my taste, a very dark side to that guy
..more later..
