0708, Thu, 091213.  Rocklin, CA.

We were busy yesterday running over the countryside checking out homes on the market.  This market is a bit different, these homes have been foreclosed.  Some have the people still living there while others are quite obviously vacant.  They go on auction almost sight unseen except for whatever you can see from your drive by but they should go at bargain prices, at least for the neighborhoods.  This is the first time we have seen homes that need a little fixing up mixed in with good neighborhoods.  We are learning the process and enjoying the hunt.

After checking these homes in and about the Rocklin area we went up to Auburn to ask a few questions at the Building Department.  All of the government buildings are in what is known as De Witt, an old WWII military compound that was given over to the county many years ago.  The bungalow type buildings had been restored a bit and housed the various departments.  It was a strange setting for us.  The building department was now a vacant lot with brand new multi-story buildings all around.  Whew, whoever said the government is running out of money?  We finally found the building department in a drop dead gorgeous building with top dollar accoutrements all around.  This building had to cost millions.  Across the street was an equal building housing the Justice Department and it went on and on.  $$$$$$$.  It must be nice to have a bottomless pit to draw money from.

We searched out a couple of five acre lots just on the edge of Auburn and sort of liked them although at our age we felt it was a bit far from town.  Maybe if we were twenty years younger we would consider the spot, remote, quiet, but not with a lot of usable land.  It did have a full time creek running through it with the local water district water available, but I'm afraid we had to put a pass on this one.

Another great work out at karate with a good turn out of students and we were heading home for a few more episodes of Glee…..more later..
