0727, Sun, 111713.  Rocklin CA.

Yesterday was Kyu test.  In Shotokan Karate we test our junior members twice a year.  It is a formal test but we try to stress that it is simply another class, giving the seniors a chance to see how our students are progressing and addressing their stage along their path as to where we think they are at this particular time.  This day was special.  We had visitors from other dojos (schools) as far away as Carson City area, with a two and a half hour drive.  Others came from El Dorado Hills to the south and Alta from the hills to the east.  I think there were about twenty seniors and the same number of juniors.

Testing was great.  We had people testing who were in their forties clear down to several adorable kids who were in the single digits with as much enthusiasm as could be expected from a little one.  When one of the little ones was told his new rank he did a Snoopy dance across the floor with his certificate held high above his head as he took his spot in line.

We met at the local Pizza Place afterwards to swap stories and a chance to get to know some of the out of towners better, making for a pretty full day.  I would consider this a fantastic success for all who were able to participate.  With the enthusiasm shown by all I think this might be the first of many to come……more later..
