0628, Mon, 063014. Killarney.
Another day on the bus. This time we made our way through the countryside for a circular tour around Killarney. There are lots of names in the area that contain "kill". We learned this is the Irish name for Church.
After our tour by bus a handful of us went for a tour through the local park via a horse drawn wagon. The job of becoming a Jarvey on one of these Jaunting Carts is handed down through the family. There is no other way to get into the business. Our driver was quite clever with his answers making for a great tour of the park. He explained that the only good thing that came out of Scotland was the road to Ireland. No love loss there. Halfway through the tour was what? Another castle of which we took a quick walk around the grounds then back on the buggy to town.
Our driver recommended a place to eat where I enjoyed some local salmon and Sue had sea chowder, both very good.
Once again, the weather held out for us and looks to be the same today. This makes for some beautiful views that could have been all fogged in, whew.
I almost forgot, as we toured the coast we saw a great little anchorage with a few cruisers enjoying their spot. We had a bird's eye view from the road along the mountainside with our lunch stop right above. Guess you can't get the sailor out of the sailor....more later..
