0705, Fri, 050611. It is another nice morning. We picked up the anchor right after breakfast and headed another hour south along the western shores of Isla Espiritu Santo. We are now in the southernmost finger of a three fingered bay, our cove being Ensenada La Gallina (the hen), the big bay is Puerto Ballena (Port of the Whale). We are sharing the area with three other boats but haven't made contact with them yet. People aren't real sociable in these parts, but then again we haven't been either. Although, in self defense, we did swing by the neighbors the other day and had a great little chat.
I tried putting out the fishing lines but only came up with a chunk of seaweed, so much for fishing.
We did get in the water yesterday, it is cold. Sue put on the ole wet suit and went around cleaning the waterline, I on the other hand, simply donned the bathing suit and did a quick in and out swimming from one back step of the boat to the other. Whew, brisk!
We haven't seen any turtles in this bay, but it sounds like the small sea gulls nest along the shore here. They like to let out a long squawk now and then to get their mates attention. There are a few more flies here than at other anchorages, probably due to the bushes at the head of the bay. Also some real pesky bees. They aren't aggressive, just persistent.
We were visited by the ranger again about mid afternoon. We explained that no one had the paper work to buy the annual pass. He said he still didn't have any, so there you go. He left with a smile and no more money in his pocket.
We got word from Jimbo the other day. It sounds like plans are getting pretty well set in stone. He will be delivering a boat with a friend of his to La Paz in a few days and then he will be able to stay with us for about a week, how kewl.
Movie time last night featured a real movie. We watched Dr. Strangelove. Peter Sellers and George C Scott were really young, ha. It was made in 1964, black and white, with really corny special effects. What a combo, Sellers and Scott. I noticed one of the guys on the bomber was James Earl Jones. Did George C Scott ever play a part other than General?.....more later..
