0702, Fri, 061011. After the morning chores were done we headed out of Puerto
Escondido, six miles across the channel to Bahia Marquer. This is a wide open bay on the Isle Carmen just north of Honeymoon Cove. With only one other boat in the anchorage we pretty much had our choice of where to drop the hook. The other boat was at the north end so we dropped at the south. By the time sunset rolled around there were seven boats in the anchorage, still with plenty of room for more.
I was out back reading when I heard a big puff, the noise the dolphins make as they release their breath, just over my right shoulder. I looked around to see two dolphins come out of the water in opposite directions, pass in mid air, and dive back into the water. Water World would be jealous. I had front row seats, about twenty feet away. I called for Sue and she came running up. As these little dolphins, a troop of about six, passed Neos, dancing across the water, we turned to see the entire bay fill with dolphins. There must have been over a hundred, doing tricks in the air, landing on their backs, slapping tails on the surface, you name it. What a show. We stood on our bow, watching this magnificent show for a good fifteen minutes. They started to calm down a bit after that but hung around the bay for the next couple of hours. They put on such a special show, wow.
After that, the rest of the day was pretty much ho-hum. We vegged out reading our books. I finished up my book about the Amish, a great inside look on their life style, OK book, Plain Truth. Later in the evening we took in a movie, In Her Shoes, Cameron Diaz. Good entertainment, I mean how bad could it be watching Cameron run around in her bikini…..more later..
