0647, Sat, 061111. We have decided to make a trip around the island. Isla Carmen is a good sized island laying in a northeast to southwest setting. It is about 20 miles long and 15 miles wide. The cruisers tend to stay on the west side so we have decided to get off the beaten path and do a circumnavigation heading counter clockwise. With no wind we made our way south at about 3.5 knots with one motor and came across a herd of dolphins playing in the flat waters. Our path led straight through the middle of the pack, so we had dolphins by the hundreds all around. The ones closer to the boat came swimming over and played with the bows for quite awhile. Sue and I were at the bow and I even got down on my hands and knees to get a real close up look as about a dozen dolphins took turns playing Touch the Tail to the Bow. At one point I could see one of the dolphins turn sideways, aiming that big eye right at us, getting a good look as he swam along. It is so kewl to be within five feet of these animals and watch as they hardly move a muscle to keep up with the boat, then, with a flick of the tail they are gone.
We made it around the southern tip of the island and came up the east side to a little nitch in the land called Punta Colorada. OK, OK, Punta means point, but it forms the nitch, the nitch known as Bahia San Francisco. It was a beautiful day, although it got a little rolly during the night, it has been a good stay having the place to ourselves.
Our movie last night was In the Cut with Meg Ryan. This is the second movie we have seen with Meg playing a serious part. I think she did a good job although the story line was quite dark…..more later..
