0803, Sat, 012812. La Paz. Busy day, and beautiful to boot. We hooked up with RNR who brought along Scott, a single sailor just getting started in his long journey. He came down with the Baja Haha in November and has plans to head south through the canal and across the big blue to Europe. We were headed to the best fish taco stand in La Paz. Russ and Janet had come across it while eating their way through town with the guests the other day. We made arrangements to meet Bert and Petra there as well and we all arrived about the same time. I do think it could be the best fish tacos in town and well worth it, about seven dollars for four tacos and a drink a piece. The tacos were loaded with shrimp and fish, really yummy. We had to head to immigration to pick up our
FM3. We got word in our email that looked like something was wrong with our paper work so we showed the message to Russ, fluent in Spanish, and he said it simply said our paper work was ready. Bert and Petra were headed that direction so they were willing to give us a lift. In fact they would have given us a ride to our destinations and a ride back to the docks, but heck, this is how we get our exercise. We joined them to a little art supply store that was packed with art supplies. It had more supplies than any store I have ever seen outside the States. We then headed over to the coffee shop that Bert had recommended. A small hole in the wall place, the coffee shop roasts their own beans and has several flavors to choose from. Bert gave me some recommendations while we enjoyed a cup of espresso. After coffee we headed over to immigration and made it in the door just as they were closing for the day. We had the last number given out so we stayed put as the crowd dwindled. There was quite a character in the crowd and he seemed to like talking with us, but he did pass the time away. It was our turn. The fellow at the window rattled off something in Spanish about our being late and looked up our paper work on the computer. We thought we were in. He looked at us saying that our paper work was in order and everything was ready, but they were closed for the day, too bad.
Disappointed, we headed three blocks over to pick up our radio at the repair shop, then over to the Mc Donald's for a Mc Flurry to blur our disappointment and headed back the long walk to Neos.
Once back on Neos, the friends we met at Bert and Petra's, Jerry and Skye, came by and we gave them a tour of the boat. As that was winding down RNR came by with Scott in tow. As Sue chatted with them at the back steps, a small (12 foot) whale shark glided right by. Had Janet been watching, she would have been able to touch him as he went by, he was that close. Of course, Sue (the first one to see him) was flustered with excitement and screamed out "sperm whale!" Sue sends her apologies to Max, our animal expert. We said good-bye to on set of friends and hello to the others. It was card time. We taught Baja Rummy to Scott. I did horribly but enjoyed the fun.
Movie time. Weeds. I think all you need to know to write these shows is how to keep on the wrong track. Whew
more later..
