0645, Tue, 011712. La Paz. It was another marathon walk across town. We headed out to get our FM3 status renewed. It was interesting since we had not been in that part of La Paz before, so there were plenty of new things to see. The weather was perfect once again, a little on the cool side, great for a long walk. We stopped in the radio shop one more time along the way and got a part for our radio that he still had, then we made the long trip across town and dropped another radio off at another shop, this one specializing in car radios. We then tried to find the immigration office. We circled an area, asking people along the way, and finally found the small office. We were surprised they didn't have a flag out front. The line was short and the fellow helped us with the paper work in short order, then we had to head down to the bank to pay the fee, $1450 pesos and come back with the receipt. This time the line was much slower but it gave us a chance to relax for awhile for the long walk back. Once done with all the paper work we felt it was time to celebrate and slipped into the Mc Donald's for a McFlurry. On the long trek back we hit the chandleries to check on the price of line and only found one that even carried the stuff, their price being at the higher end of the ball park. One of the guys who didn't have the line quoted a ridiculously low price, I think he quoted something else, and another that didn't have it said it was real expensive. Wouldn't you think that might be a good reason to carry it? Like the people that told us they quit stocking an item because it was too hard to keep on the shelf.
We crashed once we got home, or at least I did, until we were surprised by a visit from the crowd on Rock N Roll. I scurried from my reading to get the lunch dishes washed as Sue went out and greeted them. It was a great day, the water only had a slight chop to it and the sun was shining. They enjoyed seeing another kind of boat and hung around chatting for awhile. It sounds like they are having fun around town but still a bit reluctant to venture out much. Russ's Mom was a little unsure about riding around in the dinghy saying that if she fell in the rest of them would be doing "rock, paper, scissors" to see who rescued her. I told her to keep plenty of pesos in her pocket so everyone would be scrambling to save her.
After the guests left we got in a game of Baja Rummy where I was able to pull off a close win. It looked like I had it in the bag, but never celebrate until it is over. It was close. More Californication, more sex, more coke. You would think that is all that ever happens in California
more later..
