0703, Mon, 052112.     Puerto Escondido.     The big eclipse was no big deal here.  Of course you couldn't look at it directly and we made no real effort to check it out any other way, but heck, it didn't even get darker.

We have come to the conclusion that the mooring here in the waiting room isn't for Neos.  We were told by one of the guys who has been in these parts for 32 years that this mooring was inadequate for our boat.  He knew exactly what was down there, a couple of small anchors.  His suggestion was to hook a third anchor to the mooring.  Then we have the situation of the neighboring boat.  We haven't collided yet, and I don't think it would be a big thing if we did since it is during lulls in the wind that would make it most likely.  You see, when the wind is blowing we all hang the same direction, this leaves plenty of swing room for all.  But when the wind stops the boats tend to drift around in all sorts of crazy directions and this is when our circle of anchorage can cross his.  We have been pretty close at times.  Thirdly, and the final buster of the deal is land.  We are very close to the land on a low tide.  If there were to be a big blow, stretching the lines out another ten feet, we would be on land.  Not good.

No big deal. Worst case scenario we leave the boat inside, on one of the moorings there.  We are simply trying to save some money as it is a lot cheaper on the outside.  There is a chance that one of our other friends will be putting their boat on the hard when they leave for the season.  If Russ and Janet are back by then, they may move to that mooring and we could take theirs.  Oh, life is so complicated, ha.

With that worked out, we are still working out the transportation back home.  As I have mentioned before, there is a family reunion in Boston and our son's wedding in California.  Once Neos is on some mooring here in Escondido we will hitch a ride to shore???  Then we will walk the mile out to the main highway.  From there we wave down the bus that will take about five hours to La Paz and then another three hours to Cabo San Jose (the airport)  We will get a room for the night and then get a taxi to the airport in the morning.  We fly to San Francisco, stay with our good friends the Dudas, then fly to Boston.  Simple huh?  Didn't they make a movie out of something like this?

Meanwhile we enjoy our stay in the islands around Escondido.  We are going to try and be more cruiser like, or should I say sailor like.  Instead of trying to get to a particular anchorage, we are going to try and let the wind decide which anchorage we are going to.  Should be fun, more sailing.

Russ and Janet leave today, so we will take them to the docks and bid our farewells, then we will be back to enjoying the area.

R&J came over for cards but the guys didn't hold up their winning streak.  We gave it a good run but didn't quite pull it out of the hat.  Sopranos are finished, or at least we think they are.  Our episodes were so mixed up at the end we weren't sure we saw them all.  It didn't really seam to have an ending.  Maybe that's how it worked out on TV??.....more later..

oddly, came upon your post because I typed in something like "eclipse no big deal" and here I am. The last sopranos was an odd one and lots of mixed reviews- set in a diner. Did you see that one?
