0658, Wed, 053012.     Loreto.     We left Isla Coronados behind with flat seas.  Katy was due in town this afternoon.  We had a great trip into the anchorage, dropped the dinghy and were on shore.  We had to get a few things at the grocery store just to top off the food goods.

After lunch we headed back to the marina, our meeting place for Katy.  There is a huge crew of guys working the new roads along the waterfront and their project is going real well.  I had fun watching the cobble stone installers.  One guy works the cement mixer, while another is the wheelbarrow handler, yet another is the guy who applies the slurry of cement over the cobbles once installed and then there were two guys doing the actual installing of the cobbles, and don't forget the two guys who go behind the installers and point up the mortar between the stones.  Quite a crew.  I watched as the installers gathered the right stones to fit the spot needed.  I could feel their backs each time they stood straight after doing a full day of bending over.

Soon a taxi showed up but it was a false alarm.  About ten minutes later the taxi showed up with "airport" written down the side.  That had to be the one.  Sure enough, Katy popped out with a smile from ear to ear.  We headed out to Neos so she could change into some comfortable shorts and drop off her stuff.  It was goodie time for us.  She promptly handed over the tariff (a bag of M&Ms and a bag of Coffee).  We are now set for the future months.  Mmmmmmm.

Shopping was tops on the agenda.  We hit all the little trinket and tourist shops in town.  Katy turned out to be quite the bargainer dealing with the price of one item and then bargaining for multiple items.  She did good on some but was stumped by others.  It was lots of fun watching the action.

As we ended our tour we came into the central square.  As we were busy reading one of the plaques talking about the El Camino Real we were approached by a gringo who looked to be on vacation.  He asked if we were Roger and Sue and of course we tried picturing who this guy could be.  It turned out he was visiting Loreto with his father who we met through Sue's sister on one of our trips to Asia.  We had seen him on our December trip at a gathering one evening in Micki' s house.  We had no idea he would be in Loreto and of course he sent his son over to say hi so we were really baffled.

It was getting to be the end of the day so we invited Butch and John for a tour of Neos and they ended up enjoying a great sunset on the trampoline of the boat.  It was a perfect eve as we enjoyed every bit of the fading sun as darkness fell upon us.

Katy had brought our Birthday gifts with her.  I was giving Sue a new camera while she gave me a Kindle.  Wow, do we ever feel up to date now.  The camera is amazing.  It takes a picture on the first try, the lens cover opens every time and you can see through the view finder.  What more could one ask for.  The Kindle is loads of fun.  Sue and Katy were busy downloading books while we had access to the internet while I read through the directions on how to operate the little thing.  For all those thinking of getting a bargain, Sue said the prices for a used Kindle on eBay were just about the same as a new one.  I thought people would be dumping them for the newer models.  It looks like it is going to be loads of fun, what a luxury.  Now all I have to do is figure how to fold the corner of the page down to hold my spot without breaking it…….more later..
