0722, Fri, 062212. Juncalito. After getting blown out of the cove across the way we decided we had enough. It was time to leave our quiet little spot and head across the channel just north of Escondido. The wind was still blowing pretty good although not like it had during the night. We had finished the morning routine, breakfast, coffee, and writing the log. The anchor was brought up and motors were turned off right away. With only the jib out we were sailing along at almost five knots down wind. As we got to the center of the channel the wind finally quit. We were down to less than two knots of wind but still I squeezed out almost one knot of way. Of course this dipped a few times but we never came to a complete stand still. Although a person could walk faster than we were going it was a great day out so I continued along, trimming the jib this and that as the little wisp of wind would change around. I was just about to give up when the wind started picking up again getting as high as three knots. We were moving once again although barely. If we were moving I was happy. I brought the boat around the point, made my jibe and headed into the anchorage. We didn't turn the motors on until the last minute. It would have been real easy to drop the hook and never turn on the motors but we like to back off on the anchor to make sure it is set well for the night.
We had several other boats in the anchorage but as I mentioned before, there is room for dozens here. The water was crystal clear, some of the clearest water I have ever seen in the Sea of Cortez. I watched as the anchor fell to the bottom, twelve feet down, and could make it out like there was no water at all.
Sue was pretty wiped out due to lack of sleep the night before but was still willing to play cards. Poor thing didn't have a chance although I thought I was a goner for awhile.
Movie last night was Along For The Ride, Melanie Griffith and Patrick Swayze. Melanie plays a schizophrenic personality (we called them psychos in the day). She is an old girl friend, looks up Patrick and drops the bomb on him that they have a 16 year old kid. He has moved on and has married. The two of them drive across country (road trip!) to visit the kid on his B'day with wife flying in for a surprise meeting. Good entertainment
more later..
