0700, Sat, 060912.     Isla Coronados.     It was another busy day and what a day it was.  Katie couldn't ask for a better finale to a great vacation.  I woke about an hour before sunrise to the sounds of dolphins swimming past the boat.  We shouted to Katie to come topside and see the show.  An entire pod of about a dozen dolphins were doing their morning fishing expedition right past Neos.  We thought that was the show of the day.

After breakfast we were preparing to head into the beach to do a little hiking when another group of dolphins showed up near Neos.  We launched the kayak with Katie aboard.  She was able to paddle right in amongst the dolphins as they swam all around.  They stayed for a long time putting on a great show.  Then a whale came in.  Katie was able to get up close and personal to the whale as it let out its huge breath and dove under the water.  It too stayed around for quite awhile.  Sue was a little anxious watching Katie get so close while she (Sue) was busy handling the camera.  She got a long distance shot of Katie in the kayak and the whale flipping up its tail for its final dive.  A show of a lifetime!

After the show we hopped aboard the dink and headed along the shore.  The water was crystal clear so we were able to do some dry snorkeling, never leaving the dinghy.  I sat on the bow with my oar and paddled us along the shore as we looked for sea stars, urchins, and fish.  Then we headed to the beach.  I wanted to try and find the trail to the other side of the peninsula but we never found the right trail.  Oh well, we settled for playing along the beach.  We waded into the water amongst the rocks to about knee deep.  There are little black angel fish about the size of a quarter that hide out in these rocks.  They are a lot of fun to watch as they hide out.  If something comes near they dart out and chase it away from their little hide out no matter the size.  They even venture out to try and scare us away.  The longer you stay there and don't move, the braver they get.  There was a group of striped guys swimming in the same area and these little black fish harassed them everywhere they went.

We played Baja Rummy in the evening and you would think we would try harder to let our guest win, not.  I got the crazy idea to head out in the evening and do a little fishing.  What was I thinking.  I did hook a pretty good size fish, but you know how the story goes about the guy that got away.  I am using all the wrong equipment so I was happy to even hook a fish.  We finished the evening with a round of 64 and still didn't let our guest win, but I think she had a great trip just the same….more later..
