Yesterday morning it finally dawned on us. The building bubble finally burst. Sue had just finished talking with the sewer hook up guy. As what seems typical with all these agencies, they act like a deer in the headlights when asked about connection fees. One would come to the conclusion this might be the first time anyone asked about the fees ahead of time. It can't be the first time they have had to come up with a figure, especially since there is a new home on either side of this lot. I am always afraid to end the conversation with these guys too soon. Just as you have written down their estimate there seems to be more added on for something else. Then you ask about the new total and there seems to be another caveat. It is almost as if you are being played to the point of screaming and they come through with the punch line reassuring you it was all a big joke. No Joke.
We have arrived at a point where the cost in fees is close to or may even exceed our cost of building our small house. That just doesn't seem possible but there it is.
On to new adventures. We got the car washed. No, not at the car wash, the old fashioned way, with a bucket and a hose. We got some projects done around the apartment, cleaning up little piles that seem to accumulate from nowhere. If you don't keep after the little buggers they seem to take over and then there is no hope of getting rid of them. Why is it there is always that one last little pile of stuff that doesn't have a decent spot?.....more later..
