We were invited to the pumpkin patch with the grand kids. Not far out of town is a pumpkin patch in Wheatland. It is complete with all the buildings made up to look like a little farming town, lots of animals to look at and plenty of fun things for the kids to do, both free and some you have to pay for. With all the people milling around it is a surprise in this day and age that there isn't an entry fee nor even a parking fee, pretty nice. The kids started out getting some food for the goats who knew right away what was going on as a group of them scrambled over. There were lots of little ones as well as big ones and the kids loved feeding them. A couple of goats were entertaining the crowd with a soft head butting activity, lots of fun to watch as they reared up on their hind legs and came down with head tucked, only to hardly hit heads.
We got to ride the train out around the farm, play in the fort, and ride the wagon (hay ride) out to the field of pumpkins. To finish the day, the kids got to pick out their own pumpkin among the million or so pumpkins in the huge field with only on rule in mind. They could get any pumpkin they wanted but they had to carry it themselves. Of course Karissa, being a little new to this idea, tried to pick a pumpkin bigger than her, so cute. That one was put back and traded for a smaller one. After about three trades she had one that was quite comfortable and she was very satisfied. Back on the hayride, and our day was complete
