I got a couple more drawers assembled but the main breakthrough was how to fill the cracks in the countertop. I tried filling them with straight varnish but the holes never seal up and simply keep soaking in the material. I made up a batch of varnish and mixed in some sawdust from the countertop and it came out a dark chocolate brown. This seemed to seal the cracks instead of simply running through. A lot of work but I think a good solution.
Part of the day was spent packing for the backpack trip, and repacking, and repacking. As I packed the old backpack from our trip through Venezuela, the one we used for many trips to the grocery store as well, I noticed a few seams coming loose. Sue ended up going through the entire thing putting the seams back together. I finally found the right combination of weight distribution and how to get that huge sleeping bag in the pack and was satisfied. I think I have everything I need but we shall see….more later..
