0630, Sat, 062812. Waterford, Ireland.
Our main stop for the day was in Cardiff, the Capital of Wales. There was a big castle in the middle of town but we first headed across the street to the tourist shop looking for the Welsh love spoons. They are carved out of wood. The tradition was for the girl to put together the linens and the boy to put together the furniture. Of course it would take a long time to hand carve the furniture so for a shortcut the boy would show his abilities with wood with a carved spoon. He would then show it to his potential bride who in turn would show it to her father and with approval would keep the spoon. Hence the term of spooning as to wooing the ladies.
After a few sprinkles we were back on the bus making one quick stop before heading onto the ferry and crossing the sea. We were in luck, the seas were very calm and even those with touchy tummies were in fine health.
Now in Waterford we enjoyed a delicious meal as the waiters/waitresses swarmed all around us as we were served. I had a traditional Irish stew. Heck with that corn beef and cabbage, this stuff was quite tasty. After the meal we were treated to a showing of how to make Irish Coffee with due acknowledgement given to the originating in Ireland and growing up in San Francisco. Then we were each given our own Irish Coffee and enjoyed the evening.....more later..
